WHERE TO STAY
We stayed at The Rose, a recently renovated, 8 bedroom hotel, bar and restaurant with stunning interiors and a laid back vibe. You can read more on The Rose here.
WHAT TO DO
Visit Dont Walk Walk Gallery - Open since March 2017, DWW is the micro studio working space of local artist Neil 'Ned' Kelly and an independent gallery showcasing 20+ artists in painting, printmaking, illustration, photography and sculpture. [Closed Sun/Wed]
Head down to Deal seafront, take a walk along the pier and marvel at the colour of the pristine aqua waters. Stop at The Boathouse Bar inside The Royal Hotel for a drink on the terrace overlooking the sea.
I love a good beach walk and never more so than when a nice cosy pub awaits at the end. The Zetland Arms is a comfortable 1 hour stroll along the sea front from Deal, perched perfectly on the beach at Kingsdown overlooking the sea. Bare bricks, rustic materials and nautical props give this boozer a warm, homely feel and it's a popular spot for a bit of pub grub with focus on locally caught fish and seafood.
WHERE TO EAT
Sadly much of Deal is closed on a Monday and Tuesday so we didn't get to try out any of the foodie spots recommended to us for dinner. The word from locals is to head to Victuals & Co for fine dining or Frog & Scot French bistro who also own nearby Le Pinardier - wine bar, shop music venue and gallery. Next time!
WHERE TO SHOP
No Name Shop - An authentic French deli offering a fantastic selection of cheeses, olives, cold meats, condiments, freshly baked bread and pastries. If you're not in the mood for fish and chips then this is the place to stock up for a picnic on the beach.
The Deal Book Shop - Not until arriving home and writing up this feature did I discover that this lovely bookshop is actually part of the Waterstones group. One of only four 'unbranded' stores owned by the company, its small size and independent feel make it a joy to peruse.
Smugglers Records - Closed during our visit but highly recommended by locals. If you're staying at The Rose and have an in room record player, why not swing by and pick up some vinyl to take back to your room.
WHAT TO PACK

Art by Ned Kelly - his moody seascapes caught my eye at the gallery, prints from £125, larger works also available by instalments. NedKellyArts.com
Bath and body products from Austin Austin - I discovered this brand in our bathroom at The Rose and liked it so much I had ordered some online for the flat before we even made it back home. AustinAustinOrganic.com
