Breakfast at Flat White, Durham

Breakfast at Flat White, Durham

I love sleep because it's like a time machine to breakfast

Never a truer word spoken.

I love sleep and I love food but sometimes that means sacrificing one for the other.

While visiting my brother and his girlfriend in Durham last weekend, Flat White Kitchen was top of his list of places to take us, but the catch was an early morning wake up call.

You cannot book and as the place is small there is often a queue to be found snaking down the street on weekends.

The alarm set, we made it down to Saddler Street for opening as the clock struck 9am.

The interiors are gorgeous, bare brickwork and plants a plenty.

The food lived up to the hype too, being a piglet I opted for the full stack of pancakes which proved to be too much even for me!

And the namesake coffee was perfection.

I love a success story and was impressed to find that Flat White was founded by two young men aged just 22 and 24 after they returned home from travelling after Uni.

7 years on and business is deservedly booming.

If you ever find yourself in Durham I would definitely recommend hunting this place out!

Lunch is on offer too, and Thurs-Sat there are evening openings with a selection of sharing boards and small plates.
